(WWJ) A Michigan State Police trooper was taken to a hospital after a semi truck plowed into multiple MSP patrol cruisers in Oakland County overnight.

Police said the trooper was sitting in his patrol car which, along with the two other MSP vehicles, was blocking the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the left lane of southbound I-75 near 11 mile, at around midnight Wednesday.

According to investigators, a semi driver was just going too fast for the snowy conditions when he tried to hit the breaks and lost control his truck. Police said the semi into the first police car, sending that car about 100 yards into the next police car.

The MSP investigators who were outside their vehicle on the scene were able to jump the median to avoid being hit by the semi, which continued on and then hit the vehicle involved in the first crash.

Police said the trooper whose car was hit was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and has since been released.

The driver of that semi truck was arrested for reckless driving, according to MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw.

“This incident had everything we have been talking about this last month," Shaw said, in a statement. “First, a crash caused by risky driving behavior. Second, a driver going too fast, failing to move over for emergency vehicles and striking the patrol cars and people on the scene.
Finally, responding troopers had to remove pedestrians from the freeway ramps who were trying to take photos for their favorite social media platform. We are continuing to ask drivers to slow down, move over, drive safe and please do not walk on the freeway.”

Southbound I-75 was closed for both crash investigations but has since reopened.
