DETROIT (WWJ) - Three people suspected of being involved in an armed robbery surrendered to Detroit police after a standoff on the city's west side on Wednesday.

Detroit Police spokesperson Franklin Hayes said the barricaded situation ended peacefully in a live update with reporters just after 1 p.m. on Feb 22 after police negotiated with the suspects at a home in the 8400 block of Ashton Street near the Southfield Freeway and south of Joy Road.

Hayes said officers with the 9th Precinct were carrying out on operation around 10 a.m. when they identified a stolen vehicle used in an armed robbery earlier the same day.

The suspects in the vehicle did not stop for officers and police made the decision not to chase, instead recruiting the help of Trooper 2, the Michigan State Police's aviation unit.

The helicopter tracked the vehicle to the home on Ashton, Hayes said, and the barricaded situation began upon police arrival, blocking off several streets as they worked the scene.

Through negotiations, the suspects left the home without incident and were taken into police custody. No one was injured during the barricaded situation and it remains unclear if the homeowner knew the suspects.

Police said there was no forced entry at the home and investigators are trying to determine why the men ended up there.

"Thank you to our Special Response Team, CIT (Crisis Intervention Trained) officers for your work on this incident," the department said. "Also, thank you to the community members for your patience."

Detroit police said they are continuing to investigate the incident. More details are expected to be released at a later time.
