Sheriff: 3-year-old boy dies after being struck by tractor in West Michigan

A young child has died at the scene of a crash involving a tractor on a farm west of Grand Rapids, the Ottawa Sheriff's Office reported on Monday.

OTTAWA COUNTY (WWJ) - A young child has died at the scene of a crash involving a tractor on a farm located southwest of Grand Rapids, the Ottawa Sheriff's Office reported on Monday.

As reported by mLive, the sheriff's office said deputies along with Blendon Township Fire and Rescue and Life Ambulance were dispatched to a farm around 3:10 p.m. on March 21, in Blendon Township after receiving a report about a 3-year-old boy who had been hit by a tractor.

The child's injuries were severe enough that first responders immediately began preforming life saving measures once they arrived on scene, but were unsuccessful; the boy was pronounced dead soon after, deputies confirmed.

Authorities said a 21-year-old man was driving the tractor at the time the boy was hit.

The sheriff's office said the crash remains under investigation; no other information was released at this time.
