OAK PARK (WWJ) -- Following a shooting that took place outside Oak Park High School Friday night, four teenagers were arrested, one student remains in the hospital, and classes have been cancelled for two of the affected schools.
According to WWJ's Charlie Langton, who reported from the empty grounds of Oak Park High School Monday morning, both Oak Park H.S. and nearby Nova Academy dismissed classes for the day in the aftermath of the shooting.
While students have the day off, teachers and staff will report to campus. Langton says they will likely be reviewing new safety policies, including a crisis plan.
Langton also had new details on the alleged suspects.
In total, four juveniles were arrested in connection with the shooting. Three are students at Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology with the fourth student attending Thurston High School in Redford Township.
One teen -- presumably the shooter -- was detained and remains in police custody. All four are expected to appear in court sometime this week.
The shooting occurred Friday, just after 9 p.m., following a basketball game at Oak Park H.S. A Nova Academy student was involved in a physical altercation with another group of teens. As the fight escalated, one person pulled out a gun and started firing.
Several shots struck the Nova student, who was taken to a hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
In a press release, Oakland Park Public Safety said that a handgun was recovered when the suspect was arrested.
