MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WWJ) - Two state troopers in West Michigan are in stable condition following a crash with suspects fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle on Thursday night.
According to Michigan State Police at the Grand Rapids Post, the crash happened at the intersection of Holbrook and Peck in the City of Muskegon Heights just before 9:30 p.m. on June 15th.
MSP said a trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop on a reported stolen vehicle out of Kent County, but the suspect driver failed to stop, instead taking off and leading the trooper on a chase.
A second MSP squad car with two state police officers inside responded to the area to assist in the chase when the car trying to get away slammed into them at the intersection.
The pair of troopers in the cruiser and two occupants in the possible stolen vehicle were all injured in the crash and rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries.
"This is a situation that we never want to deal with, especially when we're dealing with other individuals, we never want to see this happen," Lt. Michelle Robinson said via FOX 17. "Our thoughts go out to the troopers, their families, the families of the individuals that were in the other vehicle. It's a senseless thing that happens."
As of Friday, the hospitalized troopers are said to be in stable condition.MSP said the other state police officer that was chasing the suspect car originally was not involved in the crash and did not sustain any injuries.
Officials added that the incident remains under investigation with updates to be provided on MSP's Sixth District Twitter page.
As per department protocol, the case has been turned over to detectives from the Fifth District Investigative Response Team.
