PORT HURON (WWJ) - A handful of Port Huron bars received failing marks -- and citations -- after local police said they sold alcohol to minors participating in a compliance check operation this week.

The Port Huron Police Department said they conducted the compliance check on Tuesday, December 5th, at 17 local restaurants and bars licensed by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission to sell alcohol.

As part of the operation, police sent underage decoys into the establishments to make sure they were providing alcohol to patrons 21 years of age or older.

While most of the businesses passed the check with flying colors -- refusing to sell alcohol to the decoys -- four did not.

Police said they cited the following establishments:

• The Raven, 932 Military St., Port Huron, MI 48060
• Port Huron Lanes, 1718 Hancock St., Port Huron, MI 48060
• Freighters, 800 Harker St., Port Huron, MI 48060
• Wings Etc., 330 Quay St., Port Huron, MI 48060

The department thanked the restaurants and bars who were found in compliance.

Police added that they "encourage all licensed establishments to check IDs to prevent the use of alcohol by underage minors."
