GAINES TWP., Mich. (WWJ) -- The Kent County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to provide any additional information or videos of a shooting after a ceremony in Gaines Township on Thursday.

Sheriff Michelle LaJoye Young said her office is now looking for help to identify as many as five different shooters; some of which pulled up in the parking lot of East Kentwood Football Stadium as people were leaving the event honoring grads of Kentwood Crosswoods Alternative High School.

Young said someone in a white Hyundai sedan and began shooting. As the vehicle sped away, another group in attendance at the graduation started shooting back at the fleeing car from another vehicle.

"This was an obviously brazen act as it jeopardized the safety of many of our community," Young said. "Police were already on scene for the event, and additional resources were on scene for the event, and additional resources were on scene in only one minute."

Two people were shot: a 16-year-old boy from Texas and a 40-year-old Grand Rapids woman. The boy, who was shot in the wrist, has since been released from the hospital.

The woman, who was shot in the abdomen and the wrist, remained hospitalized in stable condition on Friday.

Young did not discuss a motive for the shooting, but implied there was some sort of beef.

"This appears to be a targeted shooting," the sheriff said, "and no additional threats to students or staff have been found."

She said investigators found both vehicles involved, but they're still looking for the suspects.

Young asks tanyone in the public who can identify those responsible for the shooting, or who has any information that could assist investigators, to please come forward.

She said photo and video evidence can be submitted to the sheriff's office at this link, or uploaded to the department's Facebook page.
