WARREN (WWJ) A 71-year-old woman died when a suspect struck her vehicle during a police chase in Warren.
Warren Police said two uniformed officers in a fully marked patrol car noticed a black Chrysler 300 "driving recklessly" in the area of Van Dyke and Miller, near 13 Mile Road, on Saturday, May 24, around 9:33 p.m.
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop-- but the Chrysler driver continued to speed away, prompting a "full vehicle pursuit," according to investigators.
The suspect continued traveling northbound on Van Dyke. When he reached the intersection of 9 Mile and Van Dyke, he crashed into two uninvolved cars; police said.
According to police; the suspect ran away on foot after the crash, but officers arrested him shortly after "without further incident."
Police told WWJ the driver of the first car, a 71-year-old woman, was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver in the second car was "not seriously injured."
The investigation remains "active and ongoing."
