WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) -- A 74-year-old Detroit woman has died after she was pulled by Good Samaritans from an Oakland County lake.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on Cass Lake in Waterford Township.
The sheriff's office said bystanders spotted the woman facedown in about four feet of water, and they initially thought she was snorkeling.
But when they noticed she wasn't moving and wasn't wearing a snorkel, they pulled her from the water and called 911.
Paramedics began CPR and rushed the woman to a local hospital.
Thursday morning, an official confirmed to WWJ Newsradio that the woman died in the hospital on Wednesday.
“This is a very tragic reminder that anytime someone is in the water, regardless of the depth, it can be life-threatening, and we should watch out after each other,” Sheriff Mike Bouchard said, in a statement. “We have seen children drowned in a pool surrounded by adults because it happens in seconds.”
The incident remains under investigation by the OCSO Search and Rescue Team.
