OAKLAND TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A crash in Oakland Township leaves a woman in critical condition.
Oakland County Sheriff's officials said the crash happened on Saturday, June 20th shortly before 5 p.m., on East Gunn Road near Mount Vernon.
According to authorities, a 77-year-old Northville woman in a Volvo XC70 was approaching a curve when she attempted to pass other cars at "a high rate of speed."
She swerved to avoid a bicyclist traveling in the opposite direction on the same road. She lost control, veered off the roadway and hit a tree.
The woman became trapped inside the vehicle. Emergency responders extricated her. They rushed her to Henry Ford Rochester Hospital where she remains in critical condition.
A 12-year-old Bruce Township girl, who was a passenger in the Volvo, was not hurt.
Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash. They do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role.
The Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation.
