ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - Police confirmed the death of an 80-year-old Ann Arbor man after he was struck by a plow truck reversing out of a driveway in Friday's snowstorm.

The Ann Arbor Police Department said officers were called out to the scene in the 500 block of W. Huron Street just after 7 p.m. on March 3 after receiving a report of a vehicle-pedestrian crash.

When police arrived, they found a unresponsive man with significant head trauma, He was immediately taken to the hospital at the University of Michigan where he was pronounced dead, the department said.

Based off their preliminary investigation, authorities said a 58-year-old Ann Arbor man was behind the wheel of a snow plow and was in a driveway when he backed up and hit an 80-year-old resident, also of Ann Arbor.

The driver told police that he did not realize he had hit anything until a bystander who saw the incident flagged him down and got him to stop.

The plow truck driver remained at the scene until authorities arrived and is cooperating with their investigation, the department added.

So far, police ruled that drugs or alcohol were not factors in the fatal incident. The deceased resident's name was not released but police, but they did say family members have been notified.

Police continue to investigate the crash — no other details were released.

Friday's major winter storm brought wet, heavy snow to the Metro Detroit area. Ann Arbor was hit with quick, accumulating snowfall with rates of 1one to two inches or more an hour.

The National Weather Service said White Lake, Waterford, Clarkston and Ann Arbor saw snow totals between eight and nine inches, while cities including Milford and Howell saw over ten inches.
