HOLLY (WWJ) An 80-year-old man died in an off-road vehicle crash in northern Oakland County.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened during the late morning or early afternoon of Saturday, July 25, at Holly Oaks ORV Park in Holly, in the area of Dixie Highway and Grange Hall roads.

Their preliminary investigation suggests the 80-year-old Shelby Township man was driving a 2022 Can-Am Outlander on the park's trails near the crest of a hill. As he went down the hill, he lost control of the ORV. It overturned and threw him from the vehicle.

He landed in the crevice of a hillside while the ORV continued downhill.

First responders pronounced him dead at the scene from his injuries. Sheriff's officials say he was wearing a helmet at the time.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors.

Authorities say the crash likely occurred between 11:45 a.m. and 2:16 p.m. They do not know how long he laid there before a park patron discovered him and informed authorities.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office Drone Unit assisted with mapping the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation. The man's name was not released.
