DETROIT (WWJ) -- A 9-year-old girl has been shot and wounded in a drive-by Wednesday morning on Detroit's west side.

Detroit Police Chief James White said the child was getting ready for school, inside her home in the 15000 block of Kentfield, when she was grazed by a bullet.

"She would be able to do that safely. Unfortunately, she was not able to," White said. "Someone drove by in a vehicle, which we have some video on, fired shots into the home."

DPD officers responded to the scene after being notified by ShotSpotter — technology that detects the location of gunfire — at around 7:10 a.m.

"Thank goodness she is not seriously injured, at least physically," the chief said. "She has a graze wound to her back. She's at an area hospital being treated."

There have been no arrests in the case, as White said his detectives are still working to figure out who fired shots into the house.

Investigators remained on the scene late into the morning, pulling video evidence.
