SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- Break out the hoodies, folks.
After a bout of warm weather to start the week, forecasters say much chillier temperatures are on the way to Southeast Michigan.
On Wednesday, AccuWeather called for highs up into the mid-80s, with a line of showers/thunderstorms rolling through in the evening — and a front bringing cooler air into our area.
WWJ's Jackie Paige asked AccuWeather Meteorologist Joe Lundberg if this means "real feel summer" is over.
"(Wednesday) may be the last day when temperatures are in the mid-80s for the rest of the year; I hate to say it," Lundberg said. "We might see a day or two when it can get close to 80 degrees later in September, beginning of October, but I'll tell you what: Once we get past today, there's gonna be a lot of cool air that's gonna last into the middle of next week, before temperatures moderate the second half of next week."
Lundberg said the first cooler day will be Thursday, with a high of 69 degrees and a low of 54 in Metro Detroit.
On Friday, parts of our area could get get up to 70 degrees, with some sunshine, although the wind will make it feel cooler than that. The low on Friday is 50 degrees.
Then, for the weekend, be prepared to bundle up — at least in the evening hours.
On Saturday, AccuWeather is calling for a high of 65 degrees and a low of 50 in Metro Detroit.
For Sunday: It'll be mostly sunny with a high of 67 degrees. At night, temperatures will drop down into the upper-to-mid 40s.
Looking ahead, however, AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson said summer might not be done with us just yet. During a special in-person edition of Weather Wednesdays, Thompson said, "Keep in mind, the average last 80- degree day in Detroit is September 30th, and last year it was October 21st. In fact, seven out of the last nine years, the last 80-degree day was in the month of October. So, even if it's cool now, it's very possible that we could still have some warm days to come."
