WARREN (WWJ) - A large house explosion in Warren has injured two people, initial reports say, and shook homes and businesses Saturday afternoon.

The Warren Police Department confirmed with WWJ that first responders are still on scene at a home on 8 Mile between Schoenherr and Groesbeck; it is estimated the explosion occurred sometime around 4:30 p.m.

Officers and fire crews are expected in the area for "awhile" as they conduct their investigation.

Initial reports claim two people were hurt, including one firefighter and one man with a severe hand injury; WWJ is working to confirm those details with authorities.

Residents in the area said on social media that they heard and felt the explosion in their homes.

"I heard it over here at Toepher and Weller," one commenter wrote.

"Could see the smoke from 9 Mile and Schoenherr," another user said.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown at this time, but Warren PD said there is no threat to the public.

It is unclear where the explosion occurred, but social media users living in the area said it appears the roof to the dwelling's garage was partially blown off.

An investigation into the incident remains on going.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
