
PORT HURON (WWJ) – Police are investigating after a man was found dead in Port Huron early Sunday morning following an hours-long standoff.
Police were called out to a home on 17th Street for an assault investigation shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday and soon learned a gun was involved.
Officers determined the suspect was inside and possibly armed. As officers tried to get him out of the house, they got no response.
The Port Huron Police Department’s Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiation Unit, and Criminal Investigative Division were called in to assist patrol officers.
The Special Response Team surrounded the residence and tried to hail the subject out of the residence.
After several hours of no response, authorities went inside the home and found the man dead.
Authorities have not released his name or age, and have not disclosed a cause of death.
Officials have not released any details on the initial assault that prompted the standoff.
Authorities, including the Michigan State Police Crime Lab, are still investigating. Officials are asking anyone who knows something about the incident to call the Port Huron Police Department at (810) 984- 8415 or the Port Huron Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit at (810) 984-5383.
