(WWJ) — A suspect is behind bars after police found a large amount of drugs — along with a “surprise guest” — during a raid Downriver.

The Michigan State Police Metro Narcotics Enforcement Team (MNET) executed a search warrant in a Downriver community Tuesday morning and seized more than 500 grams of meth, MSP officials announced on X.

Authorities also found 10 grams of heroin, 6 grams of cocaine, nearly 400 grams of various pills — including oxycodone, gabapentin and acetaminophen — and nine guns.

The suspect was arrested and the case is pending prosecutor review.

MSP officials said, “on a side note,” an alligator was also found inside the home. The gator has been turned over to a local animal shelter.

MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said the gator, who he said was named "Longtooth," was not in a cage when police entered the home.

"Longtooth the gator was just hanging out at this house. So that gave us a quick little bit of a surprise there," Shaw said, noting the gator was "cooperative" as authorities tried to capture it.

MSP officials are not identifying the Downriver community where the raid was made, to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

Authorities have not released any information about the suspect or what led investigators to the drug bust. The estimated street value of the drugs was not immediately known.

The WWJ Newsroom has reached out to Michigan State Police for more information on the case.
