DETROIT (WWJ) — One person has been injured after a crash involving an ambulance on a Detroit Freeway ramp Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened on the westbound I-94 ramp to northbound I-75 around noon, leaving the freeway closed for more than an hour.
The 46-year-old driver of the Detroit EMS rig was on the ramp to I-75 when they sideswiped a Kia SUV, causing it to crash into a Buick, according to Michigan State Police.
The EMS driver lost control of the ambulance and went down a grass embankment and rolled over onto NB I-75.
MSP officials say the driver and passenger of the ambulance were not injured. They did not have a patient onboard at the time of the crash. Officials did not disclose if the EMS rig was on its way to a call.
The driver of the Kia was driven by family members to a local hospital for reported injuries, but their condition was not disclosed.
The driver of the Buick did not report any injuries.
