ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- Man's best friend got some help from first responders Tuesday after falling through ice on a lake in an Ann Arbor park.

On Tuesday, January 17, Sergeant Kory Petterle responded to Gallup Park along with several Ann Arbor officers and firefighters.

A dog by the name of Frankie had gotten caught in ice-covered water and was struggling to get back to shore.

The rescue crew acted quickly, using a battering ram to break through the frozen surface, clearing a path for the pup to swim to safety.

Body camera footage from one of the officers shows the battering ram being thrown out and pulled through the ice.

Once she makes it past the ice, Frankie turns and doggie paddles toward a clear spot on the shoreline.

In the background, first responders can be heard encouraging the cold, crying canine.

"I know baby," one man says, "Come here girl!"

"C'mon Frankie!"

The brave dog climbs up onto land and her rescuers lead her over to a police SUV with the heat on full blast.

Ann Arbor Police shared a photo of a much happier Frankie to social media before getting her back to her owners.

"It took a few minutes to get her warm but Frankie was in good spirits before heading back home with her family."
