ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- Police in Ann Arbor are asking for assistance in locating one man following the shooting of a 16-month-old boy on Sunday.
Officials are looking to question 27-year-old Devonte Derrell Brooks, but have not been able to find him.
Brooks is not a suspect in the shooting, but may have information on what took place prior to the baby being shot, Ann Arbor Police Lt. Bonnie Theil said during a press conference on Monday.
“The investigation into the shooting thus far does indicate that this incident was most likely an accident, however there was an individual (Brooks) we know was present at the time of the shooting and we need to speak with him,” Theil said.
The young child was shot in the head on Sunday around 1 p.m. inside a home on North Maple Road near Dexter.
He is currently listed in critical condition at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
Ann Arbor police say anyone with information about Brooks or his whereabouts should contact their tip line at 734-794-6939 or call 911.
