Annual 'banished words' list accepting submissions for 2022

(WWJ) -- Are there any words or phrases you hope get left behind in 2021?

Lake Superior State University is working on its 47th annual list of banished words for next year, and you have until Nov. 30 to make an entry.

LSSU’s Peter Szatmary says some of suggestions that have already been submitted this year include “iconic,” “woke” and “cancel culture.”

Last year’s list of banned words was mostly dominated by anything related to the pandemic, including the phrases "COVID-19," "social distancing,” “unprecedented,” and "We're all in this together."

Lake Superior State University will reveal the list on Dec. 31.
