BEVERLY HILLS (WWJ) – A key road project in Oakland County has finished ahead of schedule, as the new roundabout at Greenfield Road and Normandy/Beverly opened over the weekend.

The Road Commission for Oakland County opened the new roundabout on the border of Royal Oak and Beverly Hills on Saturday, a week ahead of schedule.

The intersection of Greenfield and Normandy – which becomes Beverly Road to the west of Greenfield – had been closed since June 12 for construction of the one-lane roundabout.

The roughly $1.65 million project also included the permanent closure of Beverly Court at Greenfield Road, both north and south of the roundabout in order to accommodate the new roundabout, according to the RCOC.

Officials say the intersection sees about 16,000 cars pass through every day and the new roundabout will help improve safety.

This is the 39th roundabout to open in Oakland County, which has the highest concentration of roundabouts in the state, according to the RCOC.

More information on roundabout safety is available on the RCOC website.
