NOVI (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after a small, antique military plane went down in an upscale Novi neighborhood Sunday evening.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reports that, amazingly, no one was seriously injured in the incident at around 6:40 p.m. on Cambridge Drive, in the area of 8 Mile Rd. and Haggarty, access from the Meadowbrook county club.
According to initial reports, the 71-year-old pilot was trying to make and emergency landing when the single-engine aircraft crashed onto the front lawn of a home.
The pilot, a Northville man, was the only person in the plane. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of only minor injuries.
"No fire, and no one was injured on the ground," Langton said, reporting that the plane had been removed by Monday morning.
It's believed the plane had some engine trouble, but details of what led to the crash are still unknown at this time. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is involved in the ongoing investigation.
More information is expected to be released later Monday.
