HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - A domestic incident between two family members may be to blame for shots fired on the Davison in Highland Park early Saturday morning, troopers said in an update.

Michigan State Police said they were made aware of the alleged gunshots on westbound Davison near Hamilton Street after a caller reported that they had been fired at while driving in Highland Park around 4 a.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed the caller had been in an earlier argument with the mother of their child over property and had been asked to leave. As they did, the caller believed their child’s mother began following them. They attempted to lose them, but eventually the caller noticed a white Chevy behind them on the entrance ramp from Woodward to westbound Davison.

"The victim was on westbound Davison when they believe they heard two gunshots and observed a muzzle flash," troopers said. "The caller then headed north on M-10 where they called 911."

Troopers said the Chevy is believed to have continued driving west on Davison and neither the driver or their vehicle was struck by bullets.

State police shut down westbound Davison at I-75 to conduct a shell casing search, but nothing was found.

MSP said the investigation remains active and are working to determine what happened between the two parties.
