DETROIT (WWJ)- A suspect wanted for armed kidnapping was taken into custody in Detroit after he crashed his vehicle on I-94 during a police chase and tried to flee on foot Friday night.

Michigan State Police said on Twitter that they were called to assist the Van Buren Township Police Department around 9:20 p.m. Friday with apprehending an alleged kidnapping suspect.

Officers with Van Buren Twp. told MSP they were actively pursuing the man in his vehicle on eastbound I-94 and M-10 in Detroit.

Troopers were headed to assist police when the man wrecked the vehicle and ran from the crash -- police said he was believed to be armed.

Officers were able to arrest the suspect without further incident.

"There were no patrol cars damaged and no one was hurt," MSP said of the incident.

While no other details were released by authorities, MSP did say they will be writing the crash report while the Van Buren Township police will be handling the kidnapping investigation.
