FERNDALE (WWJ) -- A 64-year-old Detroit man was arrested and arraigned this week in connection with an armed robbery at a White Castle in Ferndale.
Local police received reports of a robbery at the White Castle on Woodward, just north of 8 Mile, around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 7.
Staff told officers that the suspect -- described as a Black man between 55 and 60 years old with glasses and a gray beard -- approached the cashier and demanded money.
It was alleged the man told the worker he had a weapon, though none was seen during the encounter, and no one was hurt.
After taking about $200, the suspect fled the restaurant.
As he drove off, he was involved in a hit-and-run accident at 8 Mile Rd and Woodward. No injuries were reported at the crash site.
Law enforcement was able to obtain a description of the man's car -- a silver SUV -- along with a partial license plate.
Searching several databases, police identified the likely vehicle and suspect, and the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant.
On Feb. 15, 64-year-old Ricky Crowder was taken into custody without incident. He was arraigned the following day and stands accused of one count of felony armed robbery.
Bond was set at $250,000 with Crowder scheduled to appear in court again on Feb. 23, at 1 p.m.
