FRENCHTOWN TWP. (WWJ) - Police are asking the public for help in finding a suspect who allegedly robbed a Downriver sports store at gunpoint on Thursday evening.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, the robbery took place around 6:15 p.m. on July 6th, at the Dunham's Sports located at 2149 N. Telegraph Road in Frenchtown Township.

According to deputies, a white male walked into the store and came to the register area to inquire about an item. The clerk went to ring up the man when the register opened.

At this time, authorities say the suspect pulled out a gun and took money from the register before running out the door and heading southbound.

Goodnough said a deputy along with his K-9 partner, Bayne, responded to the scene and began to track the suspect, but the team was unable to locate him.

Authorities described the suspect as older white male, approximately 5' 9" tall, with a thin build. The suspect was described as having a “very tan” complexion. The suspect has short hair and was wearing a black T-shirt, a grey hat, and dark pants.

The alleged robbery remains under investigation with the sheriff office's Uniformed Services Division and the Detective Bureau.
