SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) -- A Shelby Township man has been arrested and charged with robbing two people who were making marijuana deliveries in the Macomb County community.
According to Shelby Township Police, the first incident happened Saturday, August 19, at around 9:40 p.m.
Police said a cannabis delivery driver knocked on the door of an apartment in the area of West Utica/Ryan, attempting to make a delivery.
When no one answered the door, the delivery driver was walking back to car when the suspect approached, punched him in the head, stole the bag of pot that he was intending to deliver, and ran off.
On week later, on August 26, also at around 9:40 p.m., another cannabis delivery driver tried to make a delivery to someone in the same apartment complex.
As the delivery driver was in the parking lot, police said the suspect approached her and stole the merchandise she was carrying.
The suspect once again ran off with the stolen cannabis.
The Shelby Township Detective Bureau and Special Investigations Unit investigated both of these robberies over the next several days. Several search warrants and interviews were conducted, police said, leading to the identification of a suspect: 20-year-old Zabion Omariez Parnell of Shelby Township.
Parnell was arrested and arraigned on two counts of Unarmed Robbery. Bond was set at $25,000 cash/surety for each charge.
“The teamwork displayed by our initial responding patrol units, Detective Bureau, Special Investigations Unit, and our Tactical Response Unit led to the quick identification and arrest of the suspect in both of these cases," said Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide, in a statement.
Parnell faces up to 15 years in prison on each count if he's convicted.
