CHESTERFIELD TWP (WWJ) -- After allegedly destroying property, shooting at officers with an assault-style rifle and barricading himself in his mobile home, a Chesterfield Township man was arrested by a SWAT Team.

Just after midnight on Thursday, Chesterfield Twp police responded to reports of property destruction at the Carriageway Mobile Home Park, located near Gratiot and 24 Mile Rd.

As law enforcement spoke with the 911 caller, a 47-year-old man stepped out of his trailer and fired a shot in their direction with an AR-15 rifle.

The officers took cover, and the gunman barricaded himself in the mobile home.

Macomb County SWAT was called in to negotiate with the suspect.

While the team was able to communicate with the man, he refused to give himself up and continued to threaten officers with his rifle, though no other shots appear to have been fired.

When the suspect stepped out of his trailer, yelling insults at the officers, the SWAT team managed to tactically approach him and take him into custody without further incident.

Following the arrest, the Chesterfield Twp Detective Bureau obtained a search warrant to access the gunman's mobile home. Inside, they found the AR-15 rifle, the single shell casing, and a number of other weapons.

At this time, the suspect is in the Macomb County Jail on charges of felony assault and malicious destruction of property.
