ARMADA (WWJ) -- Three juveniles are in custody after a police investigation led to the closure of Armada Area Schools on Monday out of "an abundance of caution."

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office said Monday afternoon deputies were called to a home in Berlin Township Sunday for a report of breaking and entering involving the theft of four guns.

An investigation eventually led to the arrest of three juveniles, who are former students at Armada Area Schools.

While authorities had two in custody and two guns recovered Monday afternoon, school officials later said a third teen was in custody and the remaining guns were recovered.

Police have not released any information about those taken into custody. School officials told WWJ they have all been out of the district for several years.

At 10 p.m. Sunday a vague post went up on the Armada Area Schools Facebook page notifying parents and students that all Armada Area Schools would be closed Monday.

The initial alert cited "a police matter in the local area" as the reason for the closure.

"There have been no threats against the school district and it does not involve any current students," school officials said in the post, "but out of an abundance of caution we are closing the district."

School and police officials reiterated Monday "at no time were threats made in reference to the school, students or staff."

Classes will resume Tuesday, school officials announced after Monday evening's update.

Superintendent Michael Musary said the school received a tip Sunday night from a parent about the break-in within district boundaries. The school district "immediately reached out to law enforcement after receiving the tip."

"I could not communicate specifics about this case last evening because we didn't want to interfere with the investigation," Musary said Monday evening.
