
MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - Officers are searching for the driver of a black SUV that allegedly hit and killed a man in Chesterfield Township early Tuesday morning before taking off from the scene. authorities said.
According to the Chesterfield Township Police Department, officers responded to the area of Cotton Road near the I-94 overpass around 6:46 a.m. on August 29 on a report of a man lying in a grassy area near the roadway.
Police arrived at the scene and found the man, identified as a 42-year-old Chesterfield Twp. resident, deceased.
The Chesterfield Twp. Police Detective Bureau and Crash Investigators were called out to assist. Authorities said they are actively investigating this case as a hit-and-run crash which occurred sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug, 28 and 6:46 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Based on their initial investigation, detectives believe a black 2017 to 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee was involved. The suspect Jeep is said to have crash damage to the right or passenger side headlight and turn signal area, police added.
"His family has been notified of his death and are very upset about the news," the department stated. "The Chesterfield Twp. Police Investigators are currently devoting much time on this case."
