DETROIT BEACH (WWJ) -- A kayaker who went missing on Lake Erie over Labor Day weekend has been found dead.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the body of 45-year old Roger Fischer of Flat Rock was found in Detroit Beach, an unincorporated community in Frenchtown Township.
Fischer had been missing since Sunday afternoon when witnesses called 911 to report that he was struggling to stay afloat, near Grand Beach.
Sheriff's deputies and EMS responded following the tragic discovery on the beach near Edgewater Street and Ninth Street, just after 8 a.m. Wednesday, and Fischer was pronounced dead.
The Lucas County, Ohio Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.
The sheriff's office said in a statement that it extends its condolences to Fischer's family.
