DETROIT (WWJ) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection says border agents last Friday intercepted more than 100 pounds of cocaine at the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit.

According to CBP, on March 21, an outbound truck with a trailer driven by a Canadian citizen was found to be carrying three garbage bags stored behind some stacks of lumber. Inside the bags, agents discovered 50 suspicious bricks that later tested positive for cocaine; 116 lbs. in total.

The drugs, truck and trailer were all seized, and the driver now faces federal prosecution.

“This is a testament to the quality of work performed by those who work tirelessly to combat transnational crime and stem the flow of dangerous drugs through our communities,” said Director of Field Operations Marty C. Raybon, in a statement. “Border security is a team effort, and I applaud the outstanding work by our officers and our regional law enforcement partners.”

Already this year, officials said more than 1,300 lbs. of cocaine has been seized at Michigan ports of entry by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The Homeland Security investigation is ongoing.
