DETROIT (WWJ) -- Early Wednesday morning, a big home in the south end of Detroit's Boston-Edison Historic District is a loss after a fire completely destroyed it.
Around 5 a.m. Detroit firefighters were on the scene at the corner of Atkinson and Byron to find the house fully engulfed in flames -- to the point where Detroit's Fire Chief Darnell Stewart said there was no chance they were going in.
"Shortly after we got here and began putting water on the dwelling, we had partial collapse in the front right corner and the house went down almost immediately," said Stewart.
Firefighters doused the home until all hot spots were out and what remained -- the end wall -- was knocked down. The fire hydrant at the corner of the house had low water pressure so they had to stretch their hose to the next block over.
Stewart said the houses on each side began to heat up due to the fire but there wasn't any damage.
According to neighbors, the house was under renovation and recently just got a new roof.
Nobody was inside at the time and no injuries are being reported.
As of right now, it's unknown what caused the fire.
