It's been called a tragedy for so many. A Huron Township boy, 13, was hit by a vehicle while riding his bike Thursday night and died.
The teen was riding in the 18000 block of Huron River Drive north of downtown New Boston when he was hit at approximately 10:52 p.m., the Huron Township Department of Public Safety said in a statement.
The driver of the vehicle was 17 years old and stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing, but the initial investigation does not indicate that alcohol or any other impairment was a factor in the crash, according to police.
“The young man we lost last night will never be forgotten. He was well liked by the students he went to school with. Our prayers go out to his family," Everette Robbins, Huron Township Director of Public Safety, said in a statement. "At this time, we are not releasing his name. We will give the family time to grieve and should they wish, we will be honored to tell everyone more about him when the time is right. We also pray for the young driver whose life changed last night. This was a tragedy for so many.”
The investigation is ongoing.
There were more than 160 comments on the Facebook post from the Huron Township Public Safety Department which offered details about the crash. Many offered prayers to both families. Romulus Mayor Robert McCraight also posted a comment that said "Romulus' thoughts and prayers are with Huron Twp residents and families today."
