LIVONIA (WWJ) -- Charges are expected against a driver who hit a mother and her two young twins, killing one of the children Sunday night in Livonia.

The crash happened at around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, just after Livonia's fireworks show had ended.

The Livonia Police Department and EMS responded to the intersection of Merriman Rd. and Lyndon street to find that a 28-year-old Detroit woman was walking with her young son and daughter when they were hit by a car.

The Livonia PD has publicly identified the pedestrians as 28-year-old Tia Robinson, and her 3-year-old twins Khalil and Khloe.

The driver fled the scene, according to police, and Good Samaritans helped get the injured kids out of the roadway.

Police said responding officers immediately rendered aid and transported the children to a nearby hospital, and the mother was transported separately by the Livonia Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment.

Tragically, police said, Khalil succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

As of Tuesday morning, police said the little girl and her mom remained in critical condition.

Police noted that the, due to the time of day, traffic signals were flashing red for Lyndon and yellow for Merriman when this happened.

Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle, identified as a 47-year-old f Mount Morris woman. Her name has not been released as the investigation continues.

Once the investigation is complete, the prosecutors office will determine charges in the case.

Meanwhile, the Livonia PD is collecting money to help the family.

"Please support the Robinson Family," the police department said, sharing a link to donate, stating that "100% of the funds donated are forwarded to the Robinson Family to assist with medical and funeral expenses."
