(WWJ) As DTE Energy crews work to restore power to the remaining homes and businesses from last Friday's storms hundreds of people have filed complaints with the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).

A spokesman for the commission told WWJ Newsradio 950 that, as of Wednesday, they'd received just under 1,200 complaints about DTE's response.

Most of those complaints are focused on the duration of the outage, restoration efforts, spoiled food and the power outage credit amount.

Around 400,000 DTE customers lost power during the gusty storms on July 3.

Only about 4,700 outages remained, as of Wednesday afternoon, mostly of them in Wayne County.

The commission has a meeting scheduled for next Thursday, July 16, to consider a rate hike proposal from the utility.

On Tuesday, DTE President CEO Joi Harris apologized to those customers who went without power over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

She said the storms came quickly, without notice, but that the utility is already examining what they can do better in the future to restore power quickly.

Comments on video of Harris' news conference shared to social media had been less than forgiving.

Joes Cousin commented: "DTE is the worst No apology is good enough As much as we pay we should have a solid grid without almost any outages."

James Asher wrote: "Yet, they want to RAISE your rates. You heard that right, DTE fails at their core function, and still wants a payraise. HECK NO."

De'da Wells suggested: "We need to get together and sue DTE point blank."
