WARREN (WWJ) — A Warren man is in critical condition after having his head kicked and stomped by two brothers in Warren Monday afternoon.
The brothers, ages 32 and 34, are in custody and are expected to face charges later this week. Police officials say there is no threat to the community as both suspects were quickly arrested.
It all began around 1:15 p.m. when Warren police began getting 911 calls from neighbors who witnessed the alleged assault in the 22000 block of Karam Court, near 9 Mile and Mound Roads.
Callers told dispatch two men were kicking and stomping the victim while he was on the ground.
When officers showed up they found the 25-year-old victim lying unconscious in the street. Officers began rendering aid until the Warren Fire Department arrived and took him to the hospital. The victim remained in critical condition Monday evening.
Officers conducted an initial investigation and learned the two suspects had likely entered a nearby home after the assault. Both suspects were arrested without incident when police served a search warrant at the home.
Investigators learned the victim and the 32-year-old suspect had gotten into an argument over money and began to fight. At some point, the victim fell into the street. That's when witnesses saw the other suspect run out of the house and begin to kick and stomp the victim in the head and upper body while he was in a defenseless position on the ground.
Authorities say no weapons were used during the alleged assault.
Investigators are "confident that this incident was not random," as the suspects and victim knew each other prior to the assault.
The investigation remained "very active" late Monday afternoon as authorities were still processing the scene and gathering evidence. Authorities plan to forward the case to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday.
