Suspect robs Detroit Family Dollar, demands cashier put cash in grocery bags

DETROIT (WWJ) – Police in Detroit need help identifying a man who they say robbed a Family Dollar store on Detroit’s west side last month.

Authorities say the man entered the store in the 2300 block of W. Grand Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. on March 29 and took an item off a shelf.

Surveillance video shows the man then approach the register with one hand in his coat pocket as if he was armed.

The suspect demanded the cashier put money from the register in a bag. After the cashier put the money in a plastic bag and placed it on the counter, she stepped away and the suspect grabbed it and took off.

Police describe the suspect as approximately 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6. He was seen wearing a tan Carhartt jacket with a hood, blue jeans and a black mask.

Detroit Rewards TV is offering a $500 reward for information about this crime. Anyone with information can submit their tip on the Detroit Rewards TV website.
