DETROIT (WWJ) – A family is still pleading for answers nearly a year after a loved one was murdered while trying to "do something good" for others.
Dariius Poe, 29, was shot to death around 2 a.m. on May 28, 2022 while walking two women to their cars outside the Wonderland Club, according to police. Authorities are not sure of a motive in the case.
The bar, located near 8 Mile and the Southfield Freeway on the city's northwest side, was shut down shortly after the shooting, as it was suspected to be operating as an illegal after-hours nightclub.
Poe's family on Monday spoke at a Crime Stoppers press conference, begging anyone who knows something about the shooting to come forward.
"You killed him. You killed my son. You know who you are. I hope you feel like I feel. I hope it's weighing heavy on your brain from morning to nights. Sleepless nights," his mother, Anne Poe, said. "What if it was your child, mother, sister, brother that got shot dead for doing something good?"
Poe, who worked as a plumber, left behind four children, his mother and girlfriend. His family described him as a caring person who was always giving to others.
"Y'all took away someone everyone loved. He was the life of the party. Everyone called him for everything," said his girlfriend, Kayla Wilson.
Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $3,400 for information that least to the arest of Poe's killer.
