SANDUSKY, OHIO (WWJ) -- More changes are coming to Cedar Point in 2022.
Two months after it was announced that the Antique Cars attraction had been demolished to make way for a new culinary location, and the Wicked Twister was on its way out, the fate of another popular ride hangs in the balance.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the Top Thrill Dragster may not reopen with the new season after a park goer was seriously injured over the summer.
The Michigan woman was standing in line waiting for the ride on August 15 when a piece of metal came loose from the coaster and struck her in the head.
Following the incident, officials from the park reportedly sent parts of the ride to a lab so that it could be determined how exactly a piece became dislodged.
"We want to fully understand what happened and why,” the park said in a statement at the time. “Together with the Ohio Dept. of Agriculture's Division of Amusement Ride Safety & Fairs, third party investigators, engineers and the ride's manufacturer, we are being careful, methodical and thorough. We will not rush the investigation and will work tirelessly in our search for answers in the interest of improving safety.”
The Dragster, which first debuted at Cedar Point in 2003, has remained closed while the investigation continues.
Other changes park enthusiasts will notice at the top of the 2022 season is an increase in ticket prices, and a big difference in how transactions are made.

When Cedar Point reopens on May 7, adult passes that are purchased at the gate will increase from $75 to $85 per person.
Additionally, the amusement park will be cashless moving forward. Those who may not carry a credit or debit card can visit cash-to-card kiosks stationed across Cedar Point to convert cash to prepaid debit cards.
Those who buy their tickets online will be eligible for discounts, including a pre-season sale that’s happening now.
