SANDUSKY, Ohio (WWJ) - Cedar Fair Entertainment, the parent company of Cedar Point and several other amusement parks in North America, has reportedly reached an agreement that will merge them with Six Flags, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The roughly $2-billion all-stock deal would form "a powerhouse" in the amusement park industry and become the largest regional theme park chain in the U.S.
Cedar Fair, Headquartered in Sandusky, Ohio, owns 11 amusement parks, including Michigan's Adventure, Knott's Berry Farm, Kings Island and more, as well as four outdoor water parks across the U.S. and in Toronto, Ontario.
Six Flags owns 27 parks in the U.S., Canada and Mexico and is the largest operator of water parks in North America.
According to the WSJ, the deal between the two companies, which each have a market value of about $2 billion, could be finalized and announced as early as this week.
It is unclear if the deal would change anything at Cedar Point or Michigan's Adventure.
The reported merger makes the second time Cedar Fair and Six Flags have talked about joining forces in recent years.
Back in 2019, Cedar Fair turned down a $4 billion merger offer from Six Flags. Reuters had then reported that the cash-and stock offer from Six Flags fell though after Cedar Fair deemed the “bid was too low."
