PORTAGE (WWJ) - Police believe falling pieces of concrete that hit a school bus and other motorists on I-94 in Portage didn't actually fall at all -- but instead thrown by someone from an overpass.

According to the Portage Department of Public Safety, the incidents of drivers being struck by concrete was first reported in the area of westbound I-94 and Sprinkle Road about 12:25 a.m. Sunday, May 7.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a school bus, a semi truck and at least one passenger vehicle had all sustained damage to their windshields after chunks of cement came down on them.

Portage Public Safety Director Nicholas Armold said via Mlive that some of the occupants on the school bus sustained minor injuries from flying glass. None needed hospitalization for their injuries.

According to police, the drivers informed officers that they were traveling on westbound I-94 between Sprinkle and Portage when the concrete crashed into their windshields.

Arnold told Mlive that he didn't think the cement just fell off the overpass above I-94 on its own. Both westbound I-94 and Portage Road are undergoing construction and road closures are in effect on Portage Road.

Responding officers searched the area for a possible suspect, but were unable to locate anyone.
