ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) -- A 4-year-old child is recovering after getting hit by a golf cart at a Memorial Day Parade in Macomb County.
According to city officials in St. Clair Shores, the incident happened Sunday afternoon on Harper Ave.
Officials said a 75-year-old man was driving a personal golf cart when he veered onto the sidewalk and hit the child, as well as a nearby adult.
The child was taken to a hospital for treatment. The adult was not seriously injured.
According to his mother, the boy — who was at the parade with his father — suffered a broken shoulder, but is now out of the hospital.
Posting on social media about the incident, the mom said she wants to know more about how this happened, and is asking anyone with video to contact her. "From what I am hearing there were multiple men that stopped the golf cart, I just want to thank you, you saved my son's life," she wrote in a St. Clair Shores community group.
City officials said the golf cart driver was working to help parade announcers.
According to a statement by the city, the driver remained on the scene and cooperated with police. Authorities confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident, officials said, the golf cart was impounded, and the driver was issued citations.
The statement continues: "Mayor Kip Walby and the entire City Council extend their deepest well-wishes to the family and especially to the child, hoping for a fast and full recovery. The City of St. Clair Shores prioritizes the safety of all its residents and visitors and continues to review the circumstances of this isolated incident."
