(WWJ) — Chrysler is recalling more than 200,000 trucks and SUVs due to a software malfunction that increases the risk of crashes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Saturday said the software issue could cause the electronic stability control system to fail.

The recall covers 2022 Dodge Durangos and Heavy Duty Ram pickups, the 2500 and 3500 models.

"This increases the likelihood of a crash, especially in larger vehicles," WWJ Auto Beat Reporter Jeff Gilbert said.

Due to the malfunction, the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module may disable the electronic stability control system, according to a report from Reuters.

Gilbert says dealers will update the control module software free of charge.
