MONROE TWP. (WWJ) – Two boaters are safely back on land after being rescued by the Coast Guard after their boat capsized in Monroe County early Sunday morning.

Officials with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office tell WWJ the boaters were on Lake Erie off the coast of Bolles Harbor when their boat overturned around 3:30 a.m.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit, area fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard were called to the scene. Officials say Coast Guard personnel rescued the two boaters around 4:15 a.m.

The boaters were taken to shore in Bolles Harbor in Monroe Township.

Authorities are not releasing the names of either victim.

It was not clear what type of boat capsized or what caused it to turn over. The sheriff's office did not say what the water conditions were like at the time of the incident.

The Marine Unit is coordinating with area towboats to recover the capsized vessel. Recovery efforts are still underway Sunday afternoon.

The Coast Guard has put out a safety broadcast regarding the submerged vessel.
