Head-on collision between car and box truck kills 1, injures 1 in Van Buren Township

WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - One person is dead and another is hospitalized after a car collided head-first with a box truck in Van Buren Township early Thursday morning, police say.

The Van Buren Township Department of Public Safety confirmed the fatal crash with WWJ, stating the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. in the 1600 block of Rawsonville Road, between Bemis and Martz, near the Wayne-Washtenaw County line.

According to initial reports, off duty firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene where one person was reportedly pinned in one of the vehicles.

Police have not confirmed specific details, but did tell WWJ that the intersections of Rawsonville and Bemis and Rawsonville and Martz remain closed down as they continue to investigate.
