STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A convicted sex offender has been found guilty of raping a young co-worker at a Jimmy John's restaurant in Sterling Heights.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, Jerome Brown-Pegues made sexual advances toward the 17-year-old victim while the two worked together at the sub shop back in the summer of 2020.
When the teen rejected him, prosecutors said the 36-year-old Pegues then became aggressive, forcing the teen into a storage room where he sexually assaulted her.
Pegues was convicted after a four-day jury trial on a charge of third degree criminal sexual conduct, a 15-year felony,-as well as a second offense notice that will tack on another mandatory five years in prison.
In a separate civil suit, the owner of the Jimmy John franchise previously agreed to pay $1.4 million to the victim after it was alleged he knew Pegues was on parole, and ignored complaints about his behavior at work.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 22.
