Cops discover large cache of drugs, weapons while arresting shooting suspect in Detroit

It was an unexpected double win for Detroit Police on Tuesday when they went to arrest a shooting suspect and ended up stumbling across guns and large amounts of drugs in the home.

DETROIT (WWJ) - It was an unexpected double win for Detroit Police on Tuesday when they went to arrest a shooting suspect and ended up stumbling across guns and large amounts of drugs in the home.

Detroit police said officers were taking a non-fatal shooting suspect into custody at a residence on Ashland Street in Detroit when they found two handguns, an AK-style rifle with a 100 round drum magazine and more than 350 grams of fentanyl, more than 390 grams of heroin, more than 600 grams of cocaine and more than 1,760 grams of meth.

Authorities said the arrest was made in part of the Violent Crime Reduction Initiative, a partnership between Wayne County Executive Warren Evans and City of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.

"“This is great work by our officers and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office to get a dangerous person off the streets and remove large amounts of harmful drugs from our neighborhoods,” Chief James E. White said. “This is an example of how we’re cracking down on gun violence offenders, and working together with our partners to keep Detroiters safe.”

The identity of the suspect along was not made available by authorities. Police said the suspect was wanted in connection to a shooting in the city's 9th Precinct.

The suspect was taken into custody at I-94 and Ecorse; when officers found drugs on the suspect, the executed a search warrant on the suspect's home where they found the other drugs and weapons
