(WWJ) A Westland man and a Detroit woman are facing charges following an unusual incident in Oakland County Sunday night.
According to Michigan State Police, the investigation began when troopers stopped to help a man they saw stopped on I-696, at around 8:30 p.m., and found that he had severe lacerations and was bleeding heavily.
Police said it turned out that, earlier in the evening, the 28-year-old Westland man was in the car with his female partner, a 27-year-old Detroit woman, when they got into an argument on N. Holly Road in Holly Township.
That's when police said the man jumped out of the moving vehicle.
The woman stopped and the man, who was cut up and bleeding, got back in.
Then the couple later ran out of gas on the freeway in Oak Park.
When troopers arrived they noticed both the man and the woman had been drinking, with two small children also in the car, police said.
The female driver was impaired, according to MSP, in possession of a pistol, and had a CPL. The man was also armed but lost his gun when he jumped out of the car, police said.
Troopers later found and recovered the man's pistol on Holly Rd.
Both the man and the woman are facing charges of having a gun while intoxicated. The woman is also facing charges of operating while intoxicated, open intoxicant and child endangerment.
The man was taken to a hospital.
The kids, who were not hurt, were released into the care of a relative.
The suspects' names have not been released as they await an arraignment.
